The Missouri Department of Transportation said work is continuing this week on pavement, sidewalk, traffic and safety improvements along Route 66, or 7th Street, in Joplin, with paving planned for the night of Sunday, Nov. 8, into the morning of Monday, Nov. 9.
MoDOT said Florida Avenue is closed on both sides of 7th Street for pavement replacement, new traffic signal infrastructure and a temporary traffic shift. Pavement removal is underway on the south side of 7th Street between Florida Avenue and Ozark Avenue, and a future closure of St. Louis Avenue is being prepared, pending work at Florida Avenue.
The announcement said temporary signal poles are being installed at Murphy Boulevard, while light poles are being relocated along the north side of 7th Street between School Avenue and St. Louis Avenue. Missouri American Water plans to close crossings at various locations between Schifferdecker Avenue and Main Street and is preparing for nighttime closures of Main Street on Monday, Nov. 16, and Monday, Nov. 23.
MoDOT said at least one lane of 7th Street will remain open in each direction, business access will be maintained during operating hours, and there will be no signed detours. The agency said weather or scheduling conflicts could change the work schedule.
