The City of Joplin says work on the Main Street Streetscaping project is scheduled to begin Tuesday, Nov. 3, with lane closures starting in Midtown. The announcement, posted Nov. 2, says drivers should expect traffic changes as work gets underway.
The first work area will be on the east side of Main Street, between 15th and 12th streets, according to the City. Traffic there will be limited to one lane in each direction and shifted to the west side of the roadway, with signs and channelizing devices directing traffic.
The City says this is the first phase of a project that will transform Main Street from 8th through 15th streets. It says residents will be notified in advance as work zones and traffic patterns change.
The project was awarded to Sprouls Construction Inc. and is expected to take about nine months, according to the announcement. The City lists the project cost as $5.3 million, with half funded by a Community Project Funding grant administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the other half from the City’s Transportation Sales Tax.
For more information, the City directs residents to contact Rob Beachner, capital improvements project manager, at 417-624-0820, extension 1543, or rbeachne@joplinmo.org.
