St. Louis Avenue north of Route 66 (Seventh Street) in Joplin is scheduled to close beginning Wednesday, Oct. 21, for up to three weeks, the Missouri Department of Transportation said. The closure will begin after signal work at Florida Avenue is complete and that intersection is open to traffic, according to the announcement.
Contractor crews will install storm sewer, sidewalk crossings and a concrete approach, MoDOT said. Access to businesses on St. Louis Avenue north of Route 66 will be maintained during business hours, and no signed detour is planned. Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone, the department said.
The work is part of a Route 66 corridor improvement project between Jasper County Route P (Schifferdecker Avenue) and Loop 49 (Range Line Road), MoDOT said. The project’s prime contractor is D&E Plumbing & Heating LLC of Nixa; the construction cost is $61.6 million, and the contract completion date is Dec. 1, 2028, according to the announcement.
MoDOT said weather or scheduling conflicts could change the work schedule. For more information, contact MoDOT in Springfield at 417-895-7600 or visit its Southwest District website, the department said.
