Missouri Southern State University Athletics announced Monday, Nov. 2, that football player David Bethune was named a co-MIAA Special Teams Athlete of the Week after his kickoff-return touchdown helped the Lions beat Pittsburg State, 23-13, in the Miners’ Bowl.
The return put Missouri Southern ahead 16-13, and the Lions scored 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, the announcement said. It was Bethune’s second kickoff-return touchdown of the 2026 season and his second in four games, according to the university.
The announcement said Bethune shared the MIAA special teams honor with Northwest Missouri’s Davis Barr. It also listed Logan Madden of Washburn as offensive athlete of the week and Brian Dykstra of Central Missouri and JC Heim of Washburn as co-defensive honorees.
Missouri Southern is scheduled to host Central Oklahoma for Senior Day at Fred G. Hughes Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 7, with kickoff at 1 p.m., the university said. A pregame ceremony will recognize 18 Lion seniors, according to the announcement.
