Joplin has received a $500,000 federal grant for a trail connecting Landreth Park with Dover Park and MOmentum Bike Park in north Joplin, the City of Joplin said in an announcement posted Oct. 28.
The city said the two-thirds-mile trail will start at the low-water bridge just west of Murphy Boulevard and North Main Street and continue to Lone Elm Road. The project also includes a new bridge over Joplin Creek at the trail’s south end, according to the announcement.
The city said construction will include a 12-foot-wide multi-use trail along Joplin Creek, an 11-foot-wide pre-formed pedestrian bridge and wayfinding signs at trailheads and along the route. The project will begin soon and is expected to be completed by 2028, the city said.
The grant requires a $500,000 city match, which will come from the Parks and Stormwater Sales Tax, according to the announcement. The city said the grant was awarded through the National Park Service and Missouri State Parks.
A separate underpass project approved through the sales tax initiative is not part of this grant and will be built later, the city said.
